He set out on his ambitious path to become a surgeon in the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) , New Delhi ,India’s premier medical institution .
He was also trained in laparoscopic surgery at AIIMS at one of its sophisticated skill courses with certification from Germany.
He was also awarded the Diplomat in General Surgery degree by the National Board of Examinations a year later.
He worked as a senior resident atJIPMER,Pondicherry after completion of his degree for a period of over 2 years. He gained vast experience in dealing with a variety of surgical problems there. He was fortunate to have worked in a surgical unit known for treating gastroenterology problems with endoscopic and laparoscopic methods apart from open surgery.
In pursuit of a structured and rigorous training programme in Gastric Surgery, he joined M.Ch. (surgical Gastroenterology),at GB Pant Hospital(MAMC) , New Delhi , which is a referral centre in North India for all gastroenterological and hepatopancreatobiliary diseases , especially cancers . He honed his skills here in laparoscopic and open surgeries relating to colorectal and hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgeries. Minimally invasive cancer surgery for upper GI tract (Esophagus and stomach) was routinely performed at this institute.Hence he was also trained in laparoscopic oncology surgery. Apart from this he was also trained in very complex operations like pancreatic necrosectomy , liver resections ,whipple’s operation etc.
